GOG.COM strikes again and releases Ultima VII.
elmurph writes:
Many years ago on a day trip to the big smoke of Galway I found an Ultima box set (Ultima Collection) that included all the first 8 Ultima games marked down to 14 punts, an Instabuy! I snapped it up and spent the rest of the day and the journey home enjoying the game manual, imagining the adventures ahead. Then disaster struck….boing! Read the rest of this entry »

Do you like shooters with sprinting? Are you partial to Jetpacks when you jump? Well the most sprinterly, jumpery and jetpacking shooter returns next month with the release of the sequel to two thousand and nine’s Section 8.
Section 8 Predjudice returns you to the action on May 4th at the unusally low price point of 15 American dollars. For this price you won’t just get Timegate Studios take on a multiplayer shooter but also a 5 hour single player game and a 4 player co-op swarm mode that promises elements of tower defence.
At this price hopefully more people will give it a shot as the first games unique take on the multiplayer shooter was up against it when it released as it was shortly before Modern Warfare 2.
This Friday heralds the release of the Adam Venture’s newest adventure, Adam’s Venture 2: Solomon’s Secret. This is the 2nd episode for Adam Venture and is a direct follow up to Adam’s Venture: The Search for the Lost Garden which was release back in 2009 which was also about the titular Adam on an adventure. These action adventure games are published by Iceberg Intreractive and developed by Vertigo games and actually looks quite interesting. Having played neither though we will reserve judgement on the game until we venture further into its cavey caves. Have any of our intrepid readers ventured this far with Mr. Venture already?
After the break a few nice screenshots and possibly a link to the official teaser video.Venture Forth…

Films like games are great. We love em both here at Sudogamer but unfortunately when you mix the two you can have some seriously sad times. However here is a game that combines a classic movie trilogy (ahem) with point and click adventuring from the brains behind Sam & Max and Monkey Island. Luckily this potent mix isn’t powered by rubbish (garbage to our American listenership) and we have a beautiful digital copy of the the full series to give away, that’s right all five episodes!
Tweet what you would do if you could travel in time. It doesn’t have to be gaming related and we will pick our favourite that makes us laugh, cry or Great Scott!
Finally, use hashtags #ifihadadelorean #sudogamer so we can find your entry.
That’s it!
The closing date for this competition is 02/02/2011
And don’t worry. As long as you hit that wire with the connecting hook at precisely 88mph the instant the lightning strikes the tower… everything will be fine.!
After a brief trial many years ago, I’ve decided to return to Azeroth and once again flirt with World of Warcraft.
This week I am mostly interested to see the Cataclysm and the end of days of Azeroth as we know it.
However it has been brought to my attention that my planned brief liaison with the gnomes, blood elves and dwarfs may develop into a full on relationship that could affect me back here in the real world.
Luckily I’m very strong at resisting these urges and am also pretty cheap so the monthly fee is already there as a barrier of entry that hasn’t been justified to me yet. Not to say that WoW is too expensive, if it was a game I really wanted to play lots and lots of then the updates, world events and community would be worth the expense. I played a lot of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer and it that was only available on a subscription model but was supported like WoW then I’m pretty sure I could find a way to pay.
But for question of the day: Is it worth getting into WoW after avoiding it for so long?

Christmas is a great time of year for gaming, playing the Crysis snow levels while it snows outside or shivering alone while playing Cryostasis, the dark evenings and cold weather provide the perfect excuse to escape to a gaming wonderland. Halloween however is a different kettle of face gnawing, undead fish. Spending the scariest night of the year tucked up in the darkest corner of your house, all the lights switched off to avoid those pesky trick or treating kids can be the worst time to be a gamer as it is without doubt the scariest. Here at Sudogamer we love a good scare but we also love a good bargain so here are our recommendations for a Halloween Night Scareathon of gaming….dare you read on…
Since the dawn of computers (well … 1995) worms have been popping up on each and every platform known to mankind, locked in an endless war. However it’s been many years since they popped their squidgy but helmeted heads onto the PC and now, obviously under the advice of Sarah Palin, they’ve not retreated but reloaded set to wage their spineless battles again on the desktop computer. The last Worms PC game was released in a pre-Steam world and the gaming scene has changed so much, so will they emerge victoriously? Read on to find out…

We can all agree that the biggest threat to the PC Gaming platform is the rampant piracy that goes on and while there can be arguments that DRM is one big cause of this there can be little argument when a small developer who created a quirky game believe that only between 5 to 15% of players paid for their game. Machinarium was release for without DRM and even so up to 95% of the people who played the game may have pirated it. Pirates, hang your heads in shame.

Previously in my review of episode 1: I was forgiving of the rudimentary game-play in the hope that the next episode would build on the first one and expand its bag of tricks….
Unfortunately it hasn’t, instead this episode repeats the issues of the first game and makes no efforts to improve on the previous episode. Sadly, our guess is that the remaining set of episodes will probably be rehashes of the poor stealth action and several perfunctory puzzles with no over-arching storyline running through the episodes. DEW DEW DOO…..
For ‘Blood of the Cybermen’ they have replaced the Daleks with the Cybermen and, well, that’s about it.
The game sets you up with an actual cliff-hanger before the iconic intro kicks in and from there we are left to control the Doctor and his lovely assistant Amy Pond through a pretty mindless adventure. This time to stop the Cybermen.
An Arctic dig has uncovered a frozen Cybermen Ship and the dig team have been assimilated into Cyberslaves who are working hard to dig out the ship to restore it to its former glory. Luckily the Doctor is on hand to save the day. Unluckily you have to play through this sub-standard adventure game to do so.
This episode plays like swimming through treacle. Rather than introduce interesting puzzles and game-play mechanics the makers have decided to place generic puzzles, a basic overused stealth mechanic and sprinklings of random platforming to slow down your progress and flesh out the game. There is a real lack of quality to the design of this game. In the first episode and at the start of this one you cannot walk off ledges however at one point in this game you can fall off as they include some slow moving platforms for you to travel between. This sort of fundamental change to the game-play mechanics introduced randomly makes no sense and does not fit – Mario this ain’t.
The game still contains the voices of the two main actors from the show however there are some sections where the Doctor’s thoughts are not spoken just presented in text which feel out of place. The story is not up to much either. They’ve really dropped the ball releasing an episodic game based on a television show and yet not tying the episodes together with any sort of storyline arc.
So unless you’re a die hard fan of the show or you enjoy poorly designed licensed games I wouldn’t recommend this game. While I can understand the need to make the game accessible to all, poor design has made playing the game a slog and shoddy implementation like on television will turn people off.
You can download the latest episode of Doctor Who here, or watch this video of the Matt Smith on stage at Glastonbury with Orbital – we promise, you will enjoy it more.

Doctor Who: City of the Daleks is free to all in the UK and as a free game there can be few complaints directed at it. However it does fall quiet short of the high standards set by the Television series which would be hard to match without a big budget.
The game starts you off like the TV series setting the scene before the famous Doctor Who intro music kicks in and pulls you into an adventure where you will be hiding from Daleks, collecting thingamebobs, solving the odd puzzle and asking the odd question or two. Read the rest of this entry »
The first episode of the new Dr Who game developed by Sumo Interactive is now available to download for free if you live in the UK. The game is currently scheduled to be released to the rest of the world for purchase from July so exterminate you excitement for now.

Here in the Sudogamer basement we do sometimes give our graphics cards a rest and let the soundblasters take a break and at these times we like to partake in a little bit of flash game goofiness. This has inspired us to do what no site has done before and post our favorites in a game of the week type special article. Let me now take you on an epic journey as I declare our first browser game of the week to be…..Basketball.
Find out after the break what makes a game who’s instructions are ‘Aim & Shoot’ so damn addictive.

Side scrolling shooters are making a comeback. Last years Xbox Live Arcade darling Shadow Complex pulled the side scroller into the new generation with an unreal engine powered bang that proved that there was still a market for these games. Booster Trooper is DnS Developments effort to bring this genre into the online multiplayer market and from the first hours play has reasonable success and jetpacs. Read the rest of this entry »
